Webinar - ACSR Conductor Splicing Issue

Today's utilities have a desire to create and maintain a high level of visibility into their operating environments to ensure the security and operational efficiencies of their assets and resources. With the increase of environmental events / disasters, public scrutiny and/or regulations utilities are looking for ways to enhance the condition of their assets and the associated risks. Utilities are transitioning from a reactive management approach to a more proactive and predictive based program, resulting in increased safety, decreased asset life-cycle costs, decreased network risk, and increases network reliability and full situational awareness. This requires an approach that is holistic and comprehensive. We are seeing a desire from utilities to embrace technological transformation by exploiting remote sensing data, analytics (cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning), installing sensors and other automated equipment, to fundamentally changing the way the grid oper

ASCR was initially installed without vibration dampeners. Vibration issues began to occur at the suspension points with damage to the outer strands. The repair made back in 1993 used a full tension splicing method which has been failing throughout the years. The focus of the discussion will be the initial conductor issue, evidence of potential splicing failure, and path forward to replacement.
