John Doggett is an award-winning Senior Lecturer at the McCombs School of Business of The University of Texas at Austin (UT).  He teaches MBA courses in entrepreneurship, global competition and sustainability.  He also is the Academic Director of UT Austin’s Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders Business and Entrepreneurship Institute.  He has taught in Austria, Chile, China, Ghana, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.  

John has extensive experience working with companies and trade associations in a wide range of industries, including electric utilities, oil, gas, and coal, manufacturing, retail, transportation, software and non-profit. 

John practiced law for 7 years in Connecticut and California.  He was a McKinsey consultant in Washington, DC and Copenhagen, Denmark.  He created an international management consulting firm that worked with clients in 25 countries.  He co-founded a Spanish Language sports television company that had an exclusive 3-year contract with the NFL to produce programs in Spanish.  

John also was the host of the John Doggett Show in Austin.  In February 1998, Talker’s Magazine selected John as one of the 100 Most Influential Talk Show Hosts in America.

John is a co-author of When We Are the Foreigners: What Chinese Think about Working with Americans.  He is co-executive producer of Shakespeare on the Range, a short movie about Louisiana prisoners learning how to become actors in Macbeth. 

John received his BA from Claremont McKenna College in 1969, his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1972, and his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1981.  He is married to Haiping Tang, who manages part of Dell’s Latitude line of laptops.
