Distribution Resiliency and Fundamentals of 100-Year Cable Life
Charles Shannon, Sr. Application Engineer, IMCORP
Utility experience around the world has shown underground cable systems are an optimal solution for distribution resiliency in the face of natural disasters but some cable owners are reluctant to invest in underground due to perceived higher costs of ownership, longevity concerns, and potentially onerous reactive maintenance scenarios. The fundamentals science of polymer cable systems indicate cable systems can last for over 100 years. This presentation will discuss the fundamentals of a typical cable system life cycle and identify lean methods to lower costs, maximize longevity, and minimize reactive maintenance.
