Letter from the Foundation President

Are you concerned about finding employees in the future? This is why RMEL has established the RMEL Foundation - to provide scholarships to deserving and qualified students in engineering, business, information systems, plant, line or distribution technology, line worker or other curriculum related to the electric energy industry.

The formation of the RMEL Foundation provides members of the RMEL the opportunity to contribute funds that will be focused on the education of students looking to the electric energy industry, without incurring the administrative costs of scholarship programs. We are requesting that you, as an RMEL member, provide financial support of the RMEL Foundation.

We recognize that many organizations are restricted from contributing to this type of organization by their by-laws. Thus, we also want to encourage individual contributions. Therefore we request your corporate and/or individual support.

In our fundraising efforts, we are focusing on building the endowment, the interest from which will be used to award scholarships in perpetuity. The endowment fund will be managed by the Foundation with the resources invested in appropriate investments including electric utility stocks. The RMEL Foundation expects to award one scholarship for each $25,000 in the corpus.

Our first scholarships were awarded in the spring of 2001. We have continued to increases the number of scholarships offered each year. This is due in large part to the monies raised at the RMEL Foundation silent auction fundraiser at the annual RMEL Fall Convention.

The selection of students for scholarships is managed by the RMEL Foundation committee. All scholarship applicants are sponsored by a RMEL member company. All member companies are encouraged to promote the RMEL Foundation scholarships within their service territories and sponsor applicable students.

All contributions to the RMEL Foundation are tax deductible under 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code.

Please fill out the donation form and return it with a check or credit card payable to the RMEL Foundation.

Contact Ed Blum, Executive Director of RMEL, at 303-865-5544 or any of the RMEL Foundation Board members or committee members if you have any questions or require any further information.

Thank you for your continued interest in helping our industry meet the needs of today and tomorrow.

Very truly yours,

Rebecca Shiflea
