Networking Thrives at Sold Out 2010 RMEL Golf Tournament

The annual RMEL Larry Cargo Golf Tournament was held July 13, 2010, at the Ranch Country Club in Westminster, Colorado. The event sold out and a variety of utility and vendor RMEL members and their guests attended.

The winning foursome with the lowest net score went to John Alexander, CH2M Hill, Henry Highland, CH2M Hill, Mike Healy and Al Brousseau, CH2M Hill. The members of this foursome received individual gift certificates to the Ranch Country Club Pro Shop.

In addition to the winning foursomes, the tournament also featured 18 sponsored hole contests. RMEL member companies sponsoring this year’s hole competitions were:
Black & Veatch Corp., Brand Energy & Infrastructure Services, Burns & McDonnell, CoBank, ETG - A Division of Westwood, Evonik Energy Services LLC, Great Southwestern Construction Company, Hawkeye Helicopter LLC, Kleinfelder, Merrick & Company, Nooter/Eriksen, Inc., Osmose Utilities Services, Inc., Powell Industries/Lewis Associates, Sabre Tubular Structures, Siemens Energy Inc., Stanley Consultants, Inc., URS Corporation and Victaulic.

The four winners of the closest in 2 on a par 4-hole challenge were: Damon Mussman, Morgan County Rural Electric Assn., Charles Mather, Black & Veatch Corp., Kurt Schnubel, Osmose Utilities Services, Inc. and Doug Eich, Xcel Energy.

The closest in 3 on a par 5 winner was Scott Rowley, Platte River Power Authority.

The winner of the closest in 2 on par 5 challenges was Charles Mather, Black & Veatch Corp.

Winners of the hole contests for longest putt were David Rhodes, Southwest Generation, Michael R. Ibold, Xcel Energy, David Henderson, Morgan County Rural Electric Assn. and Jim Scott, Hawkeye Helicopter LLC.

Kevin Pitts, Brand Energy & Infrastructure Services, won the prize for the longest drive, while Matt Beck, Power Equipment Specialists, Inc., won for most accurate drive.

The five closest to the pin winners were: George Hess, Xcel Energy, Andrew Schaller, Xcel Energy, Dan Jelinek, Xcel Energy, Jay A. Fox, Lewis Associates, Inc. and Patrick Sparks, Victaulic.

All winners of the hole contests received a gift certificate to the Ranch Country Club Pro Shop on behalf of the sponsoring companies.

Door prizes, brought by participating golfers, were also awarded during the post-tournament dinner banquet. Special thanks to all sponsors and golfers who brought door prizes, which ranged from golf balls, golf apparel and gift certificates to digital cameras, an iPod, Colorado Rockies tickets, and a restored Walter Hagen golf club.

RMEL’s next golf outing will be held in conjunction with the upcoming 2010 Fall Convention in Tucson, Arizona. The convention is scheduled for September 12-14 at the Westin La Paloma, with the golf event taking place at the La Paloma Country Club on Sunday morning.
